Distance Learning
Are
you interested in coming to a deeper knowledge of Scripture?
The Catholic Bible School offers a wide range of Distance Learning Programmes which are suitable for both personal study and small group use. These programmes, which have been especially written and produced by the Catholic Bible School, are comprised of a set of audio CDs and booklet together with either a workbook or Bible commentary. Some modules include a self corrective test. The method is flexible and enables individuals or groups to proceed at their own pace.
The modules include:
1 - Introduction To The Bible
Introduces some of the main ideas which lie behind an understanding of
the Bible as a whole and an introduction to the Old and New Testaments.
The course booklet is in five parts:

- Biblical Criticism and the Old Testament
- Biblical Criticism and the New Testament
2 - The Gospel of St John
3 - The Gospel of St
Matthew
4 - The Gospel and Letters of St John
5 - The Acts of The Apostles
6 - Early Israel
7 - Awaiting the Messiah
8 - The Coming of the Messiah
9 - The Growth of Christianity
10 - The Dead Sea Scrolls
11 - The Early Prophets of Israel
Comprises six units and will look at the origins of prophecy, the nature
of the prophetic mission and the development of prophecy in Israel. It
will study the ministry of Nathan, Elijah and Elisha and the minor and
major prophets of the 8th and 7th centuries BC, concluding with Jeremiah
and the Exile. Includes a study of all the prophetic texts used in the
Sunday liturgy in the 3-year cycle of Readings.
12 - The Later Prophets of Israel
Comprises five units and looks at the prophetic literature from the time
of the Exile, beginning with the prophet Ezekiel, to the Maccabean Revolt.
It charts the climax of prophecy in Is 40-55 to its final extinction with
the prophet Daniel. It includes a study of all the prophetic texts used
in the Sunday liturgy in the three year cycle of Readings.
Certain modules were developed for the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton as a four year Parish based programme.
